Colorectal polyps: do not usually bleed, tenesmus

UC: long standing history, episodes of bloody diarrhea

Laxative abuse: history of laxative intake, non bloody, no fever

Gastroenteritis: Acute episode, fever, abdominal pain, bloody or non bloody diarheaa (blood indicates a bacterial etiology)
