A pregnant lady came with pain in her calf muscle with local rise in temp to the antenatal clinic.

DVT > initial treatment LMWH.....then warfarin, but warfarin is contraindicated in pregnancy so she will continue on LMWH
If NO pregnancy :
the protocol is different.
- LMWH stat
- Start Warfarin within 24 hours
- Monitor INR and withdraw LMWH when value is 2.0
- Depending on provoked or non provoked, give Warfarin for 3 and 6 months respectively and then
stop.
- IVC filter is used when anticoagulants fail
- Compression stockings to all patients to prevent 'Post-phlebitic limb changes
